All the abouts

About the App

ACED BI is an Excel-based SaaS application currently under development. Written entirely in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications.) It’s designed to challenge what’s possible with Excel, pushing its limits to the maximum.

At its core, ACED BI aims to revolutionize the data visualization space by delivering insane customization capabilities, layered dashboard design structures, chart automation and speedy response times - something the big-name tools such as Power BI and Tableau can only dream of.

But this isn’t just about functionality. With ACED BI, I’m here to challenge the status quo of what “professional” graphics and visualizations should look like.

About the blog

This blog is my developer diary—a place where I document the ups, downs, and everything in between as I build ACED BI.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Progress updates: Sneak peeks into the features I’m building and the challenges I face along the way.
  • Deep dives: Technical posts on VBA and best practices for tackling large-scale projects as a solo developer.
  • Philosophical rants: Thoughts on coding, the AI revolution, and why VBA is anything but dead.
  • Random musings: Ideas, frustrations, and inspirations I stumble upon while navigating this wild journey.

About me

You can call me Taito, or Kingoftheace—my online persona (and the inspiration behind the app’s name).

I’ve been working with Excel and VBA for over a decade now, and while most people see it as an outdated programming language, I see it as an underdog with untapped potential. Why be one of the several million Python programmers out there when you can build something so complex and unique in VBA that others wouldn’t even dream of attempting? Now that’s a goal worth pursuing.

My coding style is, admittedly, somewhat unorthodox. I’ve never been one to follow tutorials, and most of my VBA knowledge comes from diving into text-based Object documentation. As a result, I tend to re-invent the wheel quite often, rather than sticking to conventional practices. Some might see this as a flaw, but occasionally, a re-invented wheel can offer significant advantages.

In my blog posts, I’ll be sharing some of these "wheels"—my unconventional approaches, experiments, and discoveries. Hopefully, they’ll inspire my fellow VBA coders to break free from the norms and explore new possibilities.
